Hong Kong

Long-term resident Christopher Bailey gives the lowdown on where to go around town

Best place for a stroll
I often tell visitors to take the Peak Tram and do the circular walk at the top – the views as you come into the harbourside are incredible. Despite being so densely populated, Hong Kong is a place where you can get into the countryside easily, more so than perhaps any other city.

Best place to impress clients
As Sevva is close to my office, I often take my clients there to talk business over cocktails. It has a great atmosphere, lovely views and lots of beautiful art lining the walls. Prince’s Building, 25F, 10 Chater Rd, tel: +852 2537 1388, www.sevva.hk

Best day out
Take the ferry over to Cheung Chau, and in the space of 45 minutes, you’ve left the metropolis of Central behind and are pulling into the harbour of a small fishing village. If you’re hungry, there are plenty of great seafood restaurants scattered along the seafront. It’s pure escapism and so easy to get to.

Best bar
Stormie’s in Lan Kwai Fong is the place to go on the weekend just to experience that Hong Kong street-party atmosphere. It has a prime spot right at the top on the corner so it’s great for people-watching. 46–50 D’Aguilar St, Central, tel: +852 2845 5533

Best bar Best journey
Get on the top deck of the tram, at the front, and ride from one end of the island – Kennedy Town in the west or Shau Kei Wan in the east – to the other. Near Kennedy Town, you can see the old godowns, dried fish shops and traditional markets. Get off anywhere you like and just jump back on.
