Tiger Airways celebrates five years of flying!

Welcome Message

It’s party time here at Tiger Airways as we blow out the candles marking our fifth birthday. As of 12 September, it has been five years since our inaugural flight out of Singapore’s Changi International Airport. And what a great five years it has been!

From an upstart airline with just one Airbus A320 aircraft and three short-hop routes, Tiger Airways has become one of the world’s leading low-fare airlines. Today, the airline boasts a fleet of 14 Airbus A320s and two A319s along with a route map that extends from China to Australia, Vietnam to Singapore and India to Thailand. We started with a purr and now we are roaring ahead!

Since launching our Australian operations in Melbourne in November 2007, Tiger Airways has continued to grow. With the delivery of two additional aircraft, we have set up a second base in Adelaide and expanded our Australian network to 16 routes – including a Sydney-to-Melbourne service with up to four daily flights starting from just AU$39 one-way, plus flights linking Sydney and Adelaide. Travellers in Asia have just as much reason to celebrate: from the end of October, Tiger Airways returns to the beach paradise of Krabi with four flights a week.

In this issue of Tiger Tales, we celebrate the recent addition of Langkawi to our route map – and five years of flying – by talking to five Langkawi residents about what makes their island home so special. We also offer advice from five students from different parts of Australia on stretching your budget while visiting Oz, and serve up an extreme adventurer’s top five adrenalin-charged holidays. And don’t miss our special anniversary story, “Years to You”. It’s no fun partying on your own, so we’re sharing the love by spotlighting other people, events and landmarks network-wide with milestones of their own to celebrate.

It goes without saying that without you, we would not have come as far as we have over the past five years. To everyone who has made Tiger Airways their low-fare carrier of choice, we extend our heartfelt thanks. We look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon.
